EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- Chad Pennington was sprawled on the turf, desperately searching for a breath as the fans at Giants Stadium nervously held theirs. The New York Jets quarterback had the wind knocked out of him early in the third quarter of a 26-11 victory over Houston on Sunday, but Pennington -- and most everyone else -- thought it was much worse. "I thought I wasn't going to make it," Pennington said with a big laugh. "If anybody's ever had that done, you know that's the worst feeling in the world. You're just sitting there like, `Oh my goodness ... I'm not going to make it ... right here on the football field.' But things worked out well." It sure did. Pennington rediscovered some missing chemistry with his receivers and had his finest passing day in weeks for the Jets (6-5), throwing for 286 yards and a touchdown. Laveranues Coles caught nine passes for 111 yards, including a 12-yard touchdown in the third quarter, and Jerricho Cotchery had seven catches for 110 yards against the Texans (3-8). "I thought we did some really good things offensively," he said. "We were able to execute in the passing game and keep drives alive."

| Bears can clinch division title in Week 12 | |
BRISTOL, Connecticut (Ticker) - The Chicago Bears can clinch their second straight division title on Sunday. Tom Brady and the New England Patriots know all about winning divisions. The interconference battle between the Bears (9-1) and Patriots (7-3) is the marquee matchup of Week 12 in the NFL.
The Sunday night meeting between the Indianapolis Colts (9-1) and Philadelphia Eagles (5-5) was supposed to be another intriguing interconference game featuring quarterbacks Peyton Manning and Donovan McNabb. But the contest lost much of its luster when McNabb suffered a season-ending knee injury last week. The Bears can become only the fourth team since the advent of the 16-game schedule in 1978 to clinch a division title by its 11th game. The other three are the 1985 Bears, the 1997 San Francisco 49ers and 2004 Eagles. Chicago can seal the NFC North crown with a win at New England, coupled with losses by the Minnesota Vikings (4-6) and Green Bay Packers (4-6). The Vikings host former coach Dennis Green and the Arizona Cardinals (2-8) on Sunday and the Packers visit the first-place Seattle Seahawks (6-4) on Monday night. But beating the Pats will be...

Buy Tickets Key defensive plays have helped the Chicago Bears thrive during a tough stretch of road games. It's the same formula the New England Patriots used to end their worst slump in four years. The NFC-leading Bears can clinch their second straight NFC North title when they face the Patriots on Sunday in a matchup of the league's top defenses. After back-to-back wins at the Meadowlands, Chicago (9-1) can secure a division crown with a win over New England (7-3) along with losses by Green Bay and Minnesota. If that happens, the Bears would become just the fourth team to clinch a division title after only 11 games since the NFL expanded to a 16-game schedule. One of the other teams to clinch this early was the 1985 Bears, who finished 15-1 and went on to defeat the Patriots 46-10 in Super Bowl 20. The Bears (9-1) picked off two passes en route to their second shutout of the season, 10-0 against the New York Jets last Sunday. In its previous game, Chicago also had two interceptions in a 38-20 win over the Giants. "We knew it would be a tough task," Bears coach Lovie Smith said. "We got two of...

| Houston at NY Jets | | Live Fantasy Advice: Watch Fantasy Football Live Heading into this season, New York Jets fans were just hoping Chad Pennington could stay on the field. Now many of them don't want him to. Even though his coach says Pennington is entrenched as the starter, the veteran quarterback could use a strong performance on Sunday against the Houston Texans to convince the Jets' faithful he deserves to be. After injuries caused him to miss 21 games over the past three seasons, Pennington has stayed healthy all season but he's been mostly mediocre since opening the season with back-to-back 300-yard games.
The inconsistency and costly mistakes of the former first-round pick have caused many New York fans to call for coach Eric Mangini to try Patrick Ramsey or rookie Kellen Clemens at quarterback. Pennington has all but one of the Jets' pass attempts this season. "Chad is the quarterback right now," Mangini said without hesitation Monday, one day after New York (5-5) lost 10-0 to Chicago. Pennington had two interceptions, including one in the end zone, while completing 19 of 35 passes for 162 yards. The Jets have been held to an average of 13.5 points...
