If we face Indianapolis, we face a horrid run defense, with the best running back in the NFL, and there's a good chance that LT and Michael Turner could combine for over 400 yards of rushing, but I don't like any game in which Peyton Manning plays against us. Kansas City beat us once this year, but there is one simple thing holding me back from calling Indy the team I'd rather face, and that is that Indy has Peyton Manning.In the AFC championship, there's almost no chance that the Chargers will face Dallas or Seattle. | | Chargers third-string cornerback arrested on DUI count | | SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Third-string cornerback Cletis Gordon was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving early Monday, the sixth run-in with the law by a Chargers player since April. San Diego police took Gordon, a 23-year-old rookie, into custody in downtown's Gaslamp Quarter about 2:15 a.m., some 10 hours after the Chargers beat the Oakland Raiders 21-14. His car was impounded, and he was released on his own recognizance later in the morning, a jail clerk said. "I think we need to wait until all the facts are brought out," coach Marty Schottenheimer said. "He was brought in. My understanding is he did the test and it was below the number. I don't know. We'll have to wait and see." Gordon wasn't available for comment. "We are all disappointed," general manager A.J. Smith said. "We'll let the legal system run its course. | | 'Lights Out' comeback on following Chargers star's four-game suspension | | The lights flickered back on for Shawne Merriman, who returned to the San Diego Chargers from his four-game steroid suspension on Monday, flashing a funky haircut and eager to resume pounding on quarterbacks. Merriman's first game back will be at Buffalo on Sunday, when the AFC West-leading Chargers (9-2) will try to extend their winning streak to six.
"I think I'll be a little bit anxious waiting for Sunday to get here, but Sunday I'll be fine, just getting out there, flying around, knocking some heads," the star outside linebacker said. With plenty of time on his hands, Merriman had his nickname, "Lights Out," carved into his hair. He earned the nickname with his jarring hits, and he celebrates sacks by pretending to flip a switch tattooed on his forearm, followed by a spasmodic dance.
