Talk about NFL highlights and disasters. | Philip Rivers Hurt in Chargers Game | | Starting QB Philip Rivers is hurt in the Chargers game against the Titans. If Rivers is out for a significant time it will hender the Chargers chances in the playoffs. Although, Rivers isn't having a great year.If the Chargers don't go far in the playoffs, does Norv Turner get fired?
| | Can Peyton Manning Lead The Indianapolis Colts to A Perfect Season? | | The question may be will Coach Jim Caldwell let his star players play the remaining games in order to have a perfect season, the New England Patriots did it, and the Miami Dolphins where the only team that went on to have the real perfect season of 19-0. Can the field general Peyton Manning lead Indianapolis to a perfect season? | |
| | Does Phillip Rivers Talk Too Much Trash? | | I have to say that Rivers is one of my favorite quarterbacks because I'm a huge NC State fan. Another thing I like about him is he isn't afraid to jaw back and forth to the players of the other team and last week when he got hurt he was running his mouth the the Colts' fans as he was leaving the field. I think its great to see someone with that kind of fire.My question is do you think he talks too much trash? He is not healthy from his injuries but yet he has been talking a lot of trash this week and he is also hopeful he will play (he is currently listed as questionable though) However, if he does play he will be playing with two bad knees and might be a sitting duck out there with the New England defense. It could mean trouble for him and his team...I still like the fire though ha ha! Go Chargers:) | |
| | | Do you think Brett Favre was worthy of the Pro Bowl? | | OK, how the heck does Brett Favre make the Pro Bowl ahead of Philip Rivers and Chad Pennington? Of course Peyton Manning is a good pick as the starter, and Jay Cutler has had his ups and downs but more than not desrves to make it, but Brett Favre? Why, just because he is Brett Favre? I can't help but think if Rivers or Pennington, whom the Jets let go to Miami after trading for Favre, were playing for the Jets they would be better than the 9-6 record the Jets have now and already would have won their division. If Favre was worth Pro Bowl consideration, the Jets could have easily been 12-3 right now. Not that I really think you can blame one person for a teams misfortunes, but if Favre had performed as a Pro Bowl caliber QB, as I said before, the Jets would have already won the East. Favre is 13th in the league in Passing yards, tied for 8th in TD's,1ST IN THE NFL IN INT'S, and 18th in QB Rating! Does this sound like a Pro Bowl QB to you? Certainly doesn't to me, but let me know what you think. | |
| | The Cutler Era officially begins | | DENVER (AP) -- Jay Cutler's been the Denver Broncos' starting quarterback all of one practice and he's already a rattled rookie. Cutler was playing it cool in his first interview at the podium when fellow rookies Brandon Marshall and Tony Scheffler began heckling him from the side. Cutler tried to keep from laughing and couldn't. "I'm excited," Cutler said. "And a little nervous." The Cutler Era has officially started. Coach Mike Shanahan ended the speculation Monday by elevating the rookie to starting quarterback for the rest of the year, sending Jake Plummer to the bench. "He's our future, he's our present," Shanahan said.
Cutler, the 11th pick out of Vanderbilt in the draft last April, hasn't taken a snap since the preseason. But Shanahan is hoping a quarterback change can ignite the Broncos' struggling offense. The team is 7-4, but ranks 26th in the league with 171 yards passing per game. "There's a lot of pressure on a first-year quarterback, no question about it," Shanahan said. "I think this kid can handle it. I think he gives us the best chance to win." His teammates figure it's worth the chance. "With the losing streak we're...
| | Raiders still steamed over non-fumble | | ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) -- There's been the Immaculate Reception, the Tuck Rule and now this for the Oakland Raiders. Another memorable call that went against Oakland and helped cost the Raiders a game.
The call in Sunday's game against San Diego that overturned a fumble and helped the Chargers rally for the tying score in a 21-14 victory. The play came on fourth-and-2 from the Raiders 40 with about 12 minutes left in a game Oakland led 14-7. Vincent Jackson made a diving catch of a 13-yard pass from Philip Rivers, rolled to the ground untouched, then stood up and spun the ball forward in celebration. Oakland's Fabian Washington jumped on the ball for what appeared to be a gift fumble. Referee Mike Carey originally signaled Oakland's possession and the Raiders' offense came on the field. But after the officials huddled, the play was eventually ruled an illegal forward pass and the Chargers were penalized 5 yards. They still gained enough for a first down and San Diego tied the game five plays later, then went on to win. "When those plays happen, we do seem to catch the wrong end of it, like the tuck rule," coach Art Shell said Monday. "Somewhere hidden in...

"I think he gives us the best chance to win." A quarterback switch worked in Dallas when Tony Romo took over for Drew Bledsoe. The Cowboys have gone 4-1 with Romo as the starter. San Diego is leading the AFC West behind first-year starter Philip Rivers. When asked if the situations were comparable, Shanahan was blunt. "No," he said. Cutler had an impressive preseason for Denver, throwing for 561 yards, third best in the NFL. Romo led the league with 833 yards...
| | San Diego 21, Oakland 14 | | SAN DIEGO (AP) -- LaDainian Tomlinson saved the day for the San Diego Chargers -- again. With both Tomlinson and the Chargers looking all too human against the Oakland Raiders, the star running back keyed yet another second-half rally to give the AFC West-leading Chargers a 21-14 win over their biggest rival Sunday, their fifth straight win. Tomlinson, in the midst of an MVP season, rushed for two touchdowns and broke out a favorite San Diego trick by throwing for another. He has 24 touchdowns this season, and needs five in the last five games to break the NFL record of 28 set by Shaun Alexander during his MVP season of 2005. Tomlinson threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to tight end Antonio Gates to tie the game at 14. The running back now has thrown for six scores in his career. The latest came four plays after Vincent Jackson nearly gave the ball away.
With the Chargers (9-2) trailing 14-7 and facing fourth-and-two from the Raiders' 40, Jackson caught a 13-yard pass from Philip Rivers, rolled to the ground untouched, then stood up and spun the ball forward. | | Jackson's spike sets off confusion
SAN DIEGO (AP) -- A moment of celebration by San Diego receiver Vincent Jackson turned into 10 minutes of confusion in the fourth quarter of the Chargers game with the rival Oakland Raiders. With the Chargers trailing 14-7 and facing fourth-and-2 from the Raiders 40, Jackson caught a 13-yard pass from Philip Rivers, rolled to the ground untouched, then stood up and spun the ball forward. Oakland's Fabian Washington jumped on the ball, believing it was a fumble, and setting off 10 minutes of confusion as the referees sorted it out. Referee Mike Carey originally signaled Oakland's possession, but then the Chargers were flagged for illegal forward pass. Even with the 5-yard penalty for the illegal pass, the Chargers still had a first down, at the 32. Four plays later, LaDainian Tomlinson threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Antonio Gates to tie the game at 14.
